This basket is hand-crocheted and comes with an image of the maker along with a brief story.
Florence Mukethi, born in 1996, has two children, aged 7 and 2 years. Her husband inherited 4 acres of land, which she farms to grow crops like maize, pigeon peas, and sorghum. Florence’s home is still under construction, consisting of three rooms, with a separate kitchen structure, and she has livestock, including 6 chickens and 3 cows. She manages water collection on her own, and despite the lack of a flush toilet, her efforts to improve her living conditions continue, including building a latrine.
Florence has been involved in making baskets for the past few years. The income from these sales have been used for purchasing essential items like maize, building materials, and livestock. Aside from the financial benefits, Florence finds basket making enjoyable as it also serves as a craft. She aspires for her children to receive a good education and be successful in life. Florence is grateful for the support from those who purchase her baskets and prays for their continued well-being, appreciating how the project has contributed to her personal and family development.
